Thomas G. Woolston

Thomas Woolston is an Operating Partner of Washington, DC-based Connected Ventures, LLC. Connected Ventures is a venture catalyst company that owns and operates companies in the real estate, financial services, marketing, mobile & e-commerce, and procurement markets; as well as making strategic investments in select companies. Tom provides legal counsel, product development, and operational leadership across the Connected Ventures portfolio of companies.

Prior to joining Connected Ventures, Tom was a senior vice president at Weather Analytics, LLC, an In-Q-Tel portfolio corporation.

Prior to Weather Analytics, Tom is the named inventor on over 24 issued United States Patents. He founded an early dot.com auction enterprise that resulted in the only successful patent enforcement action against eBay.com, Inc. The case was heard by the United States Supreme Court and reported as eBay, Inc. v. MercExchange, LLC, 547 U.S. 388 (2006). MercExchange, LLC resulting in a opinion concerning post trial injunctions in patent cases. Tom has been an expert panelist at the Federal Trade Commission investigation concerning the United States intellectual property system and its effects on small businesses and start-up endeavors. He has negotiated over $100 million in start-up funding and IP licensing transactions.

Tom served as aircrew with the United States Air Force big safari program, earning three air metals for participation in over 70 missions. Tom joined the Central Intelligence Agency under Director Casey and worked with secure communications and computer applications. Tom practiced intellectual property law with Howrey & Simon and Hunton & Williams and is a member of the DC and Virginia bar.

Thomas G. Woolston holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from George Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and a Juris Doctor from the George Washington University School of Law. He enjoys R programming and computer modeling. Tom lives with his wife and two daughters in Great Falls, Virginia and is active in the community.
